Greg Smargiassi is an accountant with a mission. He’s on a quest to take the yawn factor out of numbers so small to medium businesses can become financially savvy and thrive. Through speaking engagements, e-books, coaching, accounting, and Greg’s main love – his business OURCFO – this finance professional is determined to prove that numbers don’t have to be dry.
“Traditionally, when we speak of accounting and finances, most people’s eyes glaze over. But, if presented in the right way, numbers really can be sexy,” Greg says.
“As accountants, we can help businesses not only to thrive but to truly kick-butt by presenting financial strategies in a livelier way.”
After working in the accounting profession for 15 years, Greg was fed up with the profession’s overwhelming focus on taxation and compliance. He could see ways of giving businesses a leg up by sharing tools for success and explaining these tools in a way that business owners could understand and embrace.
Drawing inspiration from the saying “you must be the change you wish to see in the world”, Greg sold his tax accounting business and set about providing top-notch instruction in financial education, processes, and strategy to businesses through OURCFO.
His mix of experiences include tax accounting, coaching, working as an internal CFO for a large successful family enterprise, bring an innovative approach to actionable insights to business leaders for better and more confident decision making.

A framework that for over a decade has generated millions of dollars in extra profitability and cash flow for hundreds of businesses across Australia.
❇️ A complete and simplified one-page overview of the relationships between profitability, cash flow and financial position and ultimately business valuation.
❇️ How to link numbers to strategy to drive performance.
Business Growth Learning:
❇️ A business is only as good as its leadership. If we want to develop a business, then the leaders need to develop their capability and competency in a financial sense. Near enough is not good enough anymore.

Title: Leading through Complexity and Uncertainty
The brain is wired to make good enough decisions by utilising biases. This helped survival of our species throughout its evolution. Making good enough decisions in complex and uncertain business contexts is not good enough as it can potentially challenge sustainability and reputation. It becomes essential for modern leaders operating in the current environment to strengthen their capacity of sensemaking to distinguish between different contexts within which decisions need to be made and the unique approaches required to make those decisions to achieve on time, on budget and sustainable outcomes.
The presentation will focus on the following –
❇️ Leadership Sense-Making in complexity and uncertainty
❇️ Identifying different decision-making contexts
❇️ Mindset and decision approaches in different contexts
❇️ Awareness of pitfalls and biases
