District32 Panel Discussion – Digital Transformation … Where you are at in your Journey?
We are living at an essential point in economic history, from the predigital to the digital age. How will you respond—with bandages and strategies that merely work as bandages without a sustained focus on revamping your organisation towards success, organisational structure, and approach to technology? Will you respond to change and create change for your competition?
The world is getting more competitive, and it’s driving fundamental changes in how businesses operate. The industries or markets who have embraced innovation are looking to become more data-driven to prioritise investments better, target operational improvements, and identify key prospects. If organisations want to stay ahead of their competitors, then their products and services need winning customer experiences, operating processes need to be more automated and efficient, sales teams require greater mobility. If that wasn’t enough to contend with, chances are you are bogged down by regulatory, compliance and security initiatives. Although at the same time, the organisations are looking for a simplistic solution to their problems or minimise their operating expenses.
Chances are most of the organisations are on this journey of digital transformation in some shape or form. You have likely been facing some of this transformation over the last 20 years. Have you been investing in a customer-facing website in the nineties, investing in some ERP system, CRM systems and BI systems in 2000s, and are now working on mobile, social or cloud-driven transformations? Did you partner with marketing to improve lead conversion or efficiently generate new mobile and web customer experiences? Did you put in a new data warehouse and invest in data governance? Did you enable employees to bring their own mobile devices and launch collaboration tools so that the global organisation could share information and innovate on new ideas?
Change, change, change. I have been in the industry for more than 20 years and for as long I have been working, experts spoke about change. The need for organisations to adapt and evolve through this change. Is the next decade different or more of the same?
The speed of current breakthroughs has no past patterns. When compared with previous industrial revolutions, the Fourth is evolving at an exponential rather than a linear pace.
Moreover, it is disrupting almost every industry in every country. And the breadth and depth of these changes proclaim the transformation of entire systems of production, management, and governance and overall strategy including customer service and customer loyalty.
We will be focusing on three main areas in the panel discussion.
- Needing to scurry to the position of being driven by customer value
- Needing to create agile, responsive organisations that can deliver the customer value needed
- Needing to integrate technology into a core competency of everyone in your organisation.
