Our community continues to pull together to perform great acts of charity as a number of local mothers have proven. It is one thing to buy an occasional meal for a homeless person when you see someone in need, but these mums are going the extra mile and cooking up a feast for anyone who needs it by preparing frozen meals for a local drop point. While ultimately the responsibility lies with the government to help the homeless, these brave women have taken on the task of doing what they can with their own time and resources. They call the program Meals by Mums.
As you can see on their Facebook page, many in the community have come together to assist these mothers in their charitable work. For example, Dance Etc is responsible for collecting a great deal of food items and personal care products to be donated to those who are less fortunate. It is amazing how many small businesses, and the individuals connected to them, in the area can come together when a good cause is involved.
With that in mind, we want to encourage everyone to support local small businesses. The only way that these businesses, and the loving parents involved in many of their charitable activities, can do what they do is if they can stay in business. Unfortunately, there are many challenges for small businesses in our modern economy where the advantages seem to be slanted in favor of major corporations, chains, and superstores. Shopping at local stores is a great way to support the community and local entrepreneurs.
That’s what District32 is all about. We’re trying to keep the community strong and focused on make it a better place for all of us to live and raise our families. It’s a great way to show your support for local businesses and to help them thrive.
We want to offer our warmest commendation to programs such as Meals by Mums, and the hardworking women who have made it happen. There are many heroes right here in our community who volunteer their time, energy, and financial resources to make Perth a better place.
